Synology Advances Enterprise Cyber-Resiliency with ActiveProtect Manager 2.0
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Taipei, Taiwan – June 3, 2026 – Synology today announced ActiveProtect Manager 2.0, the latest update to its ActiveProtect data protection appliances. The release expands backup and recovery capabilities across major IaaS platforms and virtualisation environments, and introduces AI-powered threat detection for proactive cyber-resiliency.

“AI has turned cyber threats into a force enterprises can no longer outpace, driving organisations to seek data protection that is both dependable and accessible,” said Philip Wong, Chairman and CEO of Synology. Building on this momentum, Jia-Yu Liu, Executive Vice President of the Synology Data Protection Group, added that ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 “extends protection coverage to major clouds, hypervisors, and SaaS platforms, while introducing AI-driven threat detection that shifts data protection from reactive recovery to proactive defence.”

Expanded platform support and recovery flexibility

ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 extends backup and recovery support to Azure Virtual Machines, Amazon EC2, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox VE, and Google Workspace, giving enterprises the flexibility to protect workloads across their entire infrastructure footprint. VM instances can now be restored across platforms to either cloud or on-premises environments, enabling seamless redeployment and flexible disaster recovery.

Backup copies to Azure Blob Storage are now supported. Additionally, users can restore data cloud-to-cloud from backup copy destinations directly to production VM environments, reducing recovery time and associated costs.

AI-powered proactive cyber-resiliency

ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 advances enterprise data protection from passive resilience to proactive, AI-driven threat detection. The anomaly detection engine applies machine learning against historical backup versions to flag irregular patterns, including unusual change rates, mass deletions, and entropy spikes the moment they arise. Affected files are automatically quarantined, preventing compromised data from being inadvertently restored.

APM 2.0 also integrates with third-party antivirus tools to scan backup data for malware, so only clean, verified versions are available for restoration. The Auto Fallback feature completes the picture by automatically reverting to the latest vulnerability-free backup when a compromised restore point is detected, ensuring enterprises always recover from a clean, verified baseline.

Availability

ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 is scheduled for release in Q3 2026. For more information, visit www.synology.com/en-au/products/ActiveProtectAppliance
