Sydney, 27 March – Yesterday marked an exciting milestone for Royal Far West’s beachfront development, as dozens of country children staying at the Centre for Country Kids in Manly took part in the ‘Name the Crane’ competition. The chosen name for the crane is Wavey.
Over the last two weeks, these children enthusiastically participated in the competition, with creative submissions that showcased their imagination. As a reward for their involvement, all participating children were gifted hard hats, high-visibility vests, and certificates. The winner was also thrilled to receive a Lego crane set.
Danielle Chapman, GM Fundraising, Marketing & Advocacy at Royal Far West, highlighted the importance of this development for the organisation: “The development of Royal Far West’s land assets is vital for continuing our legacy of providing essential paediatric health services to country children and their families. This project underscores our commitment to ensuring these children have access to the care they need, no matter how far from the city they live.”

Royal Far West has been at the heart of Manly for 100 years. The development will be both inclusive and innovative, bringing together a diverse range of people, along with health and lifestyle-related functions and services. It will also feature world-class residential spaces designed to financially support our mission of helping current and future generations of country kids, as well as creating essential amenity for the Manly community.
The Liebherr Litronic crane, now proudly named Wavey, stands at 100 metres tall, is fully electric, and has a lifting capacity of 18 tonnes. It will play a pivotal role in the next phase of the project. The overall development, scheduled for completion in mid 2026, will include waterfront apartments, revitalised accommodations for country families, and a blend of retail, commercial, and lifestyle spaces.
