Crispbic Wafer Bics Gluten Free are being pulled from store shelves across Australia after it was discovered that the wafer actually contain gluten and wheat.
The discovery has caused widespread panic among those who suffer from celiac disease or gluten intolerance, as even trace amounts of gluten can cause serious health problems.
The cheese board favourite can be found in IGA supermarkets and independent food retailers in New South Wales, ACT, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.
Bics Australia has apologised for the error and is urging anyone who has purchased the affected products to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
According to Food Standards Australia, the recall is a result of incorrect packaging, which has resulted in the presence of undeclared allergens.
The product packaging is for Crispbic Wafer Bics Original Gluten Free 100g, but the product inside is for Crispbic Wafer Bics Original 100g.
“Any consumers who have a wheat or gluten allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed”, said Food Standards Australia.
Authorities are advising consumers who have a wheat or gluten allergy or intolerance not to consume this product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
