A Sydney pub which was owned by a Hollywood publican has been sold for millions of dollars to a private investment company.
It is understood that the Hollywood Hotel – owned by former Tinseltown star Doris Goddard 42 years before her death in 2019 – will keep the business in its place on the corner of downtown Surry Hills.

There have been complaints and concerns in the past about the iconic location being thought of to be rebuilt.
It is reported that Petersen Group has bought the magnificent property for more than $ 9 million, but declined to comment on the sale.
The Hollywood is the only inter-war functionalist-style pub that hasn’t been renovated since it was built in 1942, according to the NSW State Heritage inventory.
Goddard bought the bar in 1978 for $ 178,000 and used her draw as on the screen to put “Hollywood” in its name.
Career Span
She has also starred in Wee Geordie and The Iron Petticoat starring alingside Bob Hope and Katharine Hepburn, as well as Tim from Australia in the 1970s, based on Colleen McCullough’s novel with the same name.
The former actor, entertainment artist and cabaret singer often serenaded patrons of the pub with live song or poetry performances.
When lockout laws were introduced last decade, she campaigned ardently against them and became one of the movement’s faces. She passed away aged 89.
Three Story Hotel
The three-story hotel was one of the few restaurants she owned, including the Marlborough Hotel in Newtown and the West End Hotel in Balmain.
Stephen Goddard directed the sale of the hotel pub through a process that drew 212 quotations.
“It brings great pleasure to know the successful party will keep the doors open in a fashion consistent with how Sydney has enjoyed a relationship with this wonderful hotel,” Mr Goddard said.
Who Were The Interested Buyers?
Among the interest groups were Australian star, Russell Crowe, as per reports of ABC (due courtesy to them).
The company in charge of the sale said there had been a great deal of interest from hoteliers, retailers and others working in the entertainment industry.
“Great interest from Los Angeles was very evident in this sales process,” said Andrew Jolliffe, managing director of HTL Group.
