In a heartfelt announcement during the closing moments of Sunday’s Weekend Sunrise, long-time co-host Matt Doran revealed he will be stepping down from the popular breakfast program next month.

The Seven Network star shared the news alongside co-host Monique Wright, marking the end of a remarkable five-year tenure that has endeared him to audiences across Australia.

“Before we go today, a bit of breaking news from the Doran household,” he began, setting the tone for an emotional farewell.

Doran explained that the decision was made after careful deliberation with his wife, Kendall, and even included input from their beloved Italian greyhound, Murphy.

Doran cited a desire to focus on his family and explore new opportunities as the driving forces behind his decision.

“It’s been an incredible journey, but the time has come to embark on a new chapter,” he shared.

His announcement reflects a growing trend among media personalities prioritising work-life balance and personal growth over the rigors of daily broadcasting schedules.

Doran, set to present his final Weekend Sunrise episode on Sunday, December 8, admitted he “agonised over” the decision, describing it as “one of the best jobs on earth,” but ultimately concluded that it’s “the right time – for our little family.”

“This role, particularly the honor of being entrusted with people’s most intimate and personal stories, is one of the most privileged positions on the planet,” he added.

He expressed deep gratitude to the viewers for inviting him into their homes every weekend over the past five years.

“I must take a moment to wholeheartedly thank you, our viewers, for welcoming me into your living rooms over the last half-decade,” he said. “It has been an immense honor to share a few hours of your precious weekends with you—a privilege I have never, ever taken for granted.”

Doran began his journey with Seven in 2017 as a correspondent for Sunday Night. In 2019, he stepped into the role of co-host for Weekend Sunrise alongside Monique Wright.
