A potential visit by King Charles to Australia has sparked excitement and anticipation, despite the monarch’s ongoing battle with cancer. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Sunday that preparations are underway for a potential visit by the King later this year, reigniting hopes for a royal tour down under.
The news comes amidst a period of uncertainty and concern over King Charles’s health. The monarch was diagnosed with cancer last year, leading to speculation about the future of the monarchy and the potential impact on royal engagements.
Mr Albanese remarked, “His Majesty has displayed his empathy towards Australians impacted by recent natural calamities, mirroring the compassion and solidarity Australians have extended to him in light of his cancer diagnosis.”
“The King, Queen, and members of the Royal Family are perpetually greeted with open arms in Australia. My administration is actively collaborating with States and Territories to explore potential avenues for a Royal visit.”
In December, there were reports that King Charles and Queen Camilla were considering a visit to the country later this year. Initially, it was proposed that the monarch’s visit would align with a wider journey to the region for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
However, the potential schedule was postponed following the announcement of His Majesty’s cancer diagnosis in January, which came after a procedure for an enlarged prostate.
