Amidst the ongoing saga of the British royal family, a glimmer of potential reconciliation emerges as reports suggest that Prince Harry might consider returning to his royal duties if called upon by his father, King Charles III.
The Duke of Sussex, aged 39, reportedly flew across the Atlantic to spend a brief but significant 30 minutes with his father, King Charles, who is battling cancer.
This gesture, although brief, underscores the complexity of the relationship between Prince Harry and his family, particularly in light of his decision to step back from royal duties and relocate to the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children.
In an interview with Good Morning America on Friday, Harry, who holds the fifth position in the line of succession to the throne, emphasised, “I cherish my family.”
A reliable source within the royal circle conveyed, “I find it difficult to believe that if his father sought his assistance, Harry would decline; I believe he would make an effort.” However, the source also remarked, “I don’t think Harry would initiate such a request independently.”
Harry reunited with his 75-year-old father at Clarence House, the monarch’s London residence, during a brief 25-hour visit to the UK last week.
The rebellious royal, who has been in Canada for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025’s One Year to Go celebrations with his wife Meghan Markle, spoke with reporter Will Reeves — son of the late Superman star Christopher Reeves — and shared the moment he learned about his father’s diagnosis.
“I had a conversation with him. I promptly boarded a plane to visit him as soon as possible,” he stated.
“He went on to say, “You know, I love my family. Being able to hop on a plane and visit him, and to spend any amount of time with him, I’m truly thankful for that.”
Page Six has been informed by multiple sources that Harry and Markle, aged 42, have been actively pursuing a comprehensive strategy for “reconciliation” with the royal family. However, this endeavour encountered a setback with the revelation in Omid Scobie’s book, where Charles and Kate Middleton were depicted as the two alleged racist members of the royal family, causing distress within the monarchy.
Regarding whether Charles’ illness could potentially foster a sense of unity within the royal family, Harry commented, “Absolutely. Yes, I believe so. I witness the strength of family bonds bringing people together on a daily basis, and I’m confident it can have a reunifying effect.”
