Australia’s regional and remote communities have been one step closer to faster and more reliable internet, with the launch of a two-month trial giving 10,000 homes and businesses access to unlimited monthly internet at faster speeds.
The National Broadband Network (NBN) has announced the trial, which is part of its commitment to transition more regional and remote Australians from the satellite network to the fixed wireless service.
The new trial will give access to unlimited monthly data, as well as faster speeds, which will help bridge the digital divide between regional and remote communities and their urban counterparts. The trial will provide more reliable internet access for those living in the bush, which is often an issue due to the unreliable nature of satellite internet.
NBN Sky Muster Plus customers across Australia will be given the opportunity to take part in a trial that seeks to investigate the potential of satellite technology to deliver faster download speeds of up to 100Mbps to regional customers.
If the trial is successful, it could potentially bring broadband speeds and availability in rural areas up to 90 gigabytes per month or more by the end of the year.
Michelle Rowland, the Communications Minister, states a successful trial would offer small businesses and households in regional and remote Australia an increased chance to close the digital divide.
“Australians living in regional and remote communities served by NBN Sky Muster Plus can now experience the excitement of this trial, as it is the first time they will have access to unlimited monthly data allowances,” she said.
NBN expressed its dedication to further advancing satellite services in order to address the escalating demands of rural Australians.
Gavin Williams, the Chief Development Officer for Regional and Remote, declared since the Sky Muster Plus satellite service was launched in 2019, the company has been devoted to its growth.
“We are devoted to supplying broadband solutions and digital connectivity to additional households and firms within the satellite coverage area, in order to foster innovation, productivity, and expansion in rural and isolated regions of Australia,” he said.
