In January 2022, it was apparent that most Australian states would adopt a back-to-school plan. Students with COVID-19 symptoms would also have the option to learn outdoors or via remote connection.
The Australian government gave money vouchers to parents of primary school kids in New South Wales so they could get their children back to school as soon as possible.
State governments offer vouchers to offset the cost of before- and after-school care as a back-to-school sweetener.
Premier Dominic Perrottet said vouchers would alleviate the pressure on the family budget by assisting parents in balancing their work and family lives.
In addition, since childcare centers and schools have been facing tremendous pressures in the past few years, this will also provide crucial support to the education industry.
The following information will help you understand every detail about vouchers.
What is the value of the vouchers?
With a budget of $155 million, the program aims to facilitate a back-to-school plan for as many parents as possible to have students reporting to their respective schools by 2022.
A $500 voucher will be provided to parents and caregivers for every primary school student they are responsible for.
What is the process for obtaining a voucher?
Through the Service NSW app, voucher applications will be available from February 28.
It’s a straightforward process, according to Education Minister Sarah Mitchell. She said that most parents would find the process similar to the one used for Creative Kids and Active Kids vouchers.
According to Victor Dominello, Customer Services Minister, you don’t have to seek transport means to get the vouchers. They will be delivered to phones through a similar infrastructure as the Discover and Dine.
How do I use the voucher once I receive it?
The vouchers are provided to childcare providers for $500 credit per child. Families would receive vouchers to cover their childcare costs after applying the Commonwealth-funded subsidy – usually referred to as the parent gap fee.
Treasurer Matt Kean stated that the government wanted to make childcare accessible and affordable, especially before and after school.
Kean added that these vouchers would go a long way in supporting the before and after school care industry that has been affected over the past few years.
Is it possible to use them for anything else?
The vouchers can only be used by parents for before and after-school care.
Minister for Customer Services Victoria Dominello encouraged residents to utilize the Discover and Dine voucher program to support their local businesses.
