Facebook is making it possible for all employees who are able to work outside the office premises from their homes to not come yo the office after the Covid pandemic is going to end.

The company told employees that “anyone whose role can be performed remotely is eligible and can request for remote working.”

What Has Facebook Said?

However, competitors of Facebook, other large technology companies like Apple and Google have recently changed the way they work and asked employees to return back to office in the next couple of months.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has told employees that he planned to allow up to one-half of 2022 as remote working away from office.

As he has in the past said that a half of the firm’s 60,000 employees will work from home in the next ten years.

Facebook’s offices are expected to open at full capacity in October. However, those employees who do not have a remote work permit need to be at office at least half of the time.

Remote Working Policies

A Facebook spokesperson declined to say how many people are currently allowed to work from home but however said that the company had approved about 90% of requests to work from home.

The company told the BBC that the new remote work policy only applies to the Facebook’s employees, and not subcontractors, who are widely used to carry out content moderation and other tasks.

In November 2020, the content moderators accused Facebook of forcing them to return to the office.

At the time, the company said that the majority of its 15,000 global content reviewers had been working remotely, and would be able to do so for the duration of the pandemic.

Mark Zuckerberg’s WFH Experience

Mr. Zuckerberg talked about his experience in remote working in a note separately sent to each of the employees.

He said that being out of the office had made him “happier and more productive at work”, adding it had given him “more space for long-term thinking” and enabled him to “spend more time with my family”.

Mr. Zuckerberg said he spends a lot of his private time in the countryside of the island of Hawaii.
