McDonald’s is the latest big business to be affected by the data leaks which revealed sensitive customer data.

The world’s largest burger chain said that cyber attackers had broken into a “small amount” of the files of the clients in the Republic of Korea and Taiwan.

What Data Has Been Breached?

The breach included e-mail, delivery addresses and phone numbers – but not payment details.

A spokesperson for the company said that it would take steps to “get the information passed on to the regulatory agencies, and customers that are affected in the breached files.”

The details of the hack, first reported by the Wall Street Journal was discovered during an external investigation when some sort of unauthorized activity detected on the corporate’s network.

McDonald’s Strong Investment In Cyber Security

The company said its “significant investment in cyber-security, meant that it was able to be identified promptly.

“These tools allowed us to quickly identify and contain recent unauthorised activity on our network. A thorough investigation was conducted, and we worked with experienced third parties to support this investigation,” it said.

The restaurant business operations did not suffer from data breaches.

Increased Cyber Attacks

However, the fast food chain said that the staff data was also breached without specifying the country in which it has happened.

“In the coming days, a few additional markets will take steps to address files that contained employee personal data.

“Moving forward, McDonald’s will leverage the findings from the investigation as well as input from security resources to identify ways to further enhance our existing security measures.”

This is the most recent of the companies to be targeted by cyber-attacks in the last couple of weeks.

Game publisher Electronic Arts (EA), on Thursday, said that hackers managed to steal their valuable information including the source code for a game of FIFA 21.
