Venezuela accuses US false-flag operation Caribbean

The Venezuelan government has accused the United States of planning a false-flag operation in the Caribbean. Officials in Caracas say the alleged plan involved staging an attack on a US naval vessel to justify further military actions against Venezuela.

The statement was issued by Venezuelan Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino López, who said the government had intercepted communications pointing to “an operation coordinated by the CIA and Pentagon.” The alleged mission, he said, aimed to create chaos ahead of Venezuela’s December 2025 elections.

Caracas Says US Seeks “Excuse for Aggression”

According to López, the United States and its allies are using disinformation and military exercises near Venezuelan waters to “destabilise the Bolivarian Republic.” He said, “Our intelligence has uncovered a plan to simulate an attack on a US warship, blame Venezuela, and use that as a pretext for military intervention.”

The Venezuelan government has not provided independent evidence for these claims. The US State Department has yet to respond publicly to the accusations.

Rising Tensions Over Regional Military Activity

The accusation comes as the US Navy continues joint military exercises with partner nations in the Caribbean and South America, a move Venezuela calls a “provocation.”

Relations between Caracas and Washington have been tense for years, particularly since US sanctions targeted Venezuela’s oil sector. Although there were signs of limited diplomatic contact in recent months, this latest claim may once again strain ties.

Political analysts say the false-flag accusation could also serve domestic purposes, rallying Venezuelan voters around the government ahead of upcoming elections.

Background: US–Venezuela Relations Remain Strained

The United States does not recognise the legitimacy of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s 2018 re-election, and continues to support opposition leader María Corina Machado. In response, the Maduro government often accuses the US of interference and covert destabilisation efforts.

Over the past decade, Venezuela has repeatedly denounced what it calls “foreign sabotage” and “information warfare.”

The latest accusation reflects a continuing pattern of diplomatic hostility and deep mistrust between the two nations.

What Happens Next

Observers say the situation could escalate if Venezuela presents what it calls “proof” of the alleged CIA-linked plot. Any new military or diplomatic move by Washington may trigger a stronger response from Caracas.

For now, regional stability depends on both sides avoiding provocation. The Caribbean has seen a rise in naval activity in recent months, with nearby nations calling for restraint and dialogue.

Conclusion

The claim that Venezuela accuses US false-flag operation Caribbean highlights renewed geopolitical friction in the Americas. With elections looming and regional tensions rising, both countries face growing pressure to manage their conflict through diplomacy rather than confrontation.
