Tesla has joined Wall Street’s S&P 500 stock index as its sixth largest member, quickly rubbing its shoulders in popularity with Amazon, Apple and Facebook.

How Did The Stock React?

Shares of electric car makers fell more than 5% on their first day on Monday, amid widespread concerns about the potential impact on the global trade in mutant coronavirus identified in the UK.

But its entry into the top US stock index companies, despite never making a profit for the year, includes another milestone in its multi-billion dollar founder, Elon Musk.

Tesla’s shares reached a high of $ 695 on Friday, valuing the company at more than $ 650bn, less than six months after overhauling Toyota to become the world’s most important carmaker. Ford is estimated at $ 35bn.

The increase was partly caused by a buying spree linked to the scheduled entry into the S&P 500, because funds that automatically invest in members of the index snapped up about $90bn of stock in readiness.

But performance continued a long-term trend that led to the share of car manufacturer’s shares increasing by almost 700% last year.

Is Tesla Overvalued?

Tesla is yet to make a profit for a single financial year, although it has racked up successive positive results in quarterly earnings figures.

While some investors have warned it is significantly overvalued, its soaraway share price indicates the majority think it can deliver on its promise.

Backers believe the company’s technological prowess puts it in pole position to beat traditional automotive firms at securing top spot in the burgeoning electric car market.

Tesla, who was facing questions about whether it could avoid the stringency for cash the past 18 months back, will account for 1.69% of the S&P 500. Every $ 11.11 move in Tesla’s share share price, the S&P 500 will change by a point.

Musk and others within Tesla own about a fifth of the shares.

Musk’s Recent Dogecoin Tweet

The Tesla Chief official (TSLA) tweeted Bantant on Sunday, including calling bitcoin BS. He announced Dogecoin in a tweet, “One Word: Doge.”

The tweet sent Dogecoin valuation up for about 20 percent and placed them on the list of top Twitter articles. The tech billionaire even finally updated his Twitter history with the title “The Chief Executive of Dogecoin.”

Musk’s Twitter antics come as the dominant cryptocurrency rises to a constant level during the coronavirus epidemic. Last week, bitcoin rose sharply beyond the $ 20,000 mark – beyond $ 24,000 – as the currency continues to grow in the interest of investors.

This is not the first time Musk wrote on Twitter about Dogecoin, a descendant of bitcoin. ‘
