A massive Bunnings is coming to Sydney’s Northern Beaches and is expected to be completed within two years. The $48 million project will create more than 800 jobs during the construction and operation of the five-level Bunnings high-rise in Frenchs Forest.
The store will feature three levels devoted to retail, including a hardware store and an outdoor garden centre, as well as a cafe and an area for children to play. The store will also be equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technologies, including a digital inventory system, and a range of green initiatives to reduce its environmental impact.
The development, which will span across two levels and house 400 cars, will occupy a parking space that was previously occupied by an Australia Post store and a two-storey office block, both of which have been demolished. The project is expected to be completed by 2025.
Bunnings had to adjust their plans after the years-long process to get the project off the ground hit a slight bump. To make up for the increase in height of each of its three floors by 50cm, Bunnings correspondingly lowered the height of their inner warehouse on the second level.
In 2021, two years ago, news.com.au reported the major project on the corner of Warringah Road and Allambie Road in Frenchs Forest had received the green light. Bunnings regional operations manager Alan Harvey gave an indication at the time of the immense scale of the undertaking.
It is anticipated the new store will generate more than 130 team member positions and a minimum of 700 construction positions.
The newly constructed store is almost as large as the enormous $55 million Midland Warehouse in Perth’s northeast, which opened in December.
The Midland Bunnings in Western Australia is the biggest of its kind, covering more than 21,000sq m, and providing over 480 car parking bays, double the amount of the former Midland Bunnings.
