What Is the Centrelink Family Tax Benefit Lump Sum claim?

The Centrelink Family Tax claim (FTB) is a government payment designed to assist families with the cost of raising children. Eligible families can choose to receive FTB payments either fortnightly or as a lump sum after the end of the financial year. If you opted for a lump sum and haven’t lodged your claim yet, it’s crucial to act before the 30 June 2025 deadline .

Why Is the 30 June 2025 Deadline Important?

You have until 30 June 2025 to:

  • Submit your FTB lump sum claim for the 2023–24 financial year.
  • Confirm your family income for the 2023–24 financial year.

This confirmation is essential for Services Australia to assess your eligibility and determine the correct amount of FTB you’re entitled to .

How to Submit Your FTB Lump Sum Claim

If You Need to Lodge a Tax Return

  • Lodge your 2023–24 tax return with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Once lodged, the ATO will automatically share your income details with Services Australia.

If You Don’t Need to Lodge a Tax Return

  • Confirm your income with Services Australia by:
    • Using your Centrelink online account through
    • Using the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.

It’s important to note that even if the ATO grants an extension for lodging your tax return, the 30 June 2025 deadline for confirming your income with Services Australia remains unchanged .

Consequences of Missing the Deadline

Failing to submit your lump sum claim or confirm your income by 30 June 2025 may result in:

  • Missing out on top-up payments or supplements you’re entitled to.
  • Having your FTB payments stopped.
  • Being required to repay any overpaid amounts, leading to a Centrelink debt .

How to Claim FTB as a Lump Sum

To claim FTB as a lump sum, you can:

  • Claim online through your Centrelink online account via
  • Download and complete the FA048 form and submit it to Services Australia.
