In a startling turn of events, a popular constipation relief supplement has been hastily recalled after reports emerged of live bugs discovered in some of the product bottles.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has taken swift action, recalling two batches of Henry Blooms Herb-a-lax 200g dried herb powder, a supplement that had been marketed to “relieve constipation and improve bowel regularity.”
This unexpected discovery has raised significant concerns among consumers, prompting health authorities to act swiftly to mitigate potential health risks associated with the contaminated batches.
A representative from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) disclosed that live insects, specifically identified as tobacco beetles and scientifically termed Lasioderma serricorne, were detected in two batches of the supplement.
The TGA expressed concern, stating that in certain instances, the presence of beetles and their waste products could potentially result in the inhalation of allergens. This could be particularly worrying for individuals with specific allergies or respiratory issues.
The affected batches that consumers are urged to check are numbered 22108402 and 22108403, both bearing an expiry date of April 2025.
The recall is limited to the specified batches and does not apply to any other Henry Blooms products.
