Retired NSW homicide detective, Gary Jubelin, has adapted his long ongoing true-crime podcast “I Catch Killers” into a live show. Gary and his crew are preparing the script and the cast of the show. They are set to go on a tour across Australia, covering several first-tier theatres in the country.
Gary Jubelin left the police force in 2019. During his decorated career as a homicide detective, he came across many high-profile cases. One of the most intriguing cases in his life was the disappearance of 3-year-old William Tyrrell. The kid was abducted while playing right outside his foster grandmother’s house. The case was followed highly by the Australian media in 2014.
William’s disappearance case helped Gary in getting some public recognition as the detective headed the investigation. He later utilized that image by starting his own podcast. In the podcast, he shared his true detective stories. In a short period of time, it has become a huge hit, garnering an audience from all over Australia.
Speaking about his journey, Gary told “The Morning Show” in a recent interview:
“There’s the pressure that comes with investigating anyone’s disappearance or a homicide. When it had the type of attention that William’s matter had, it adds to the pressure.”
“But you’re there because you know how to do the work in the first place, so it’s something you become accustomed to, and I’ve been doing homicide (as a detective) for a long time. So I felt comfortable with the pressure and that was shared among the team I was working with,” he continued.
Schedule Announcement of the Detective Show
Gary then went on to announce the schedule and venues for his live stage show tour next year. The name of the show will also be “I Catch Killers.” The title is derived from the former detective’s memoir of the same title. The tour will include 8 shows in total, encompassing no less than 7 different Australian cities/towns, including Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, and Wollongong. The tour will be hosted by the Logie-winning actor, Rob Carlton.

Talking about the tour, the former NSW detective stated:
“It’s taking me out of my comfort zone, I’m doing it with Rob Carlton who’s a good friend of mine…he’s going to be throwing some hard questions at me. We’re going to take people into the world of crime, and that’ll be the interview room, the crime scene. We’re certainly not glorifying crime but it will be giving people an understanding and feed that fascination people have for true crime.”
With such an interesting premise, the show will be intriguing to witness. Whether or not Gary Jubelin continues in this path telling more of his true detective stories in the future, hinges solely on the success/failure of next year’s Australia-wide tour.
