World-famous streaming platform Netflix has renewed one of its highest-grossing shows, Sex/Life for a second season after its success in the first season. The announcement comes as a relief for fans, as it wasn’t clear after the season 1 finale whether the show would go on, especially after the cliffhanger it left behind.
The show, with its quirky setup, had mixed reviews from both critics and viewers. But, with so many memorable characters in it, the show has garnered many positive reviews as well, gaining a widespread fan following from all over the world.
The entertaining show, starring Sarah Shahi as Billie Connelly, a raunchy girl with spicy memories and fantasies, and Australian actor Adam Demos as Brad Simon, Billie’s big bad former boyfriend, proved to be one of the most successful shows from Netflix in the year of 2020. It’s not a surprise that it has been renewed for a sequel season, and it won’t be surprising if more seasons follow, especially because that has been the trend set by Netflix in the past few years.
The announcement came early today in the form of a short video, which featured several women going over their obsession with Sex/Life and their vast desire for more of it. The announcement video was published on the official Instagram accounts of Sex/Life, Sarah Shahi, and Adam Demos. Demos and Shahi, the leads of the show, are also a couple in real life.
Now that the second season has been announced, fans have shifted their interests to creating theories about what could happen after the cliffhanger ending of the first season, where (spoiler alert!) Billie seemingly hinted at preferring her relationship with Brad to her pre-existing marriage. Whatever is to come in the next season, it’s quite guaranteed that the main focus of the show will be on character development and the rising topic of “female sexuality.”
Stacy Rukeyser, the creator and showrunner of Sex/Life, also shared her delight on the announcement, by saying:
“Sex/Life is a dream come true. To create a show about empowered female sexuality that has entranced so many millions of viewers is not only immensely fun but also incredibly gratifying. I’m thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to continue telling this story for Billie, and for all of us.”
Lead actress Sarah Shahi also shed light on her own feelings about the show:
“When I think about all the women who have reached out from all over the world to say that the show speaks to them in a deeply personal way, I am so inspired.”
With such a talented cast and an able showrunner, Netflix might have found its next cash-grabber. With filming yet to begin, the second season of Sex/Life could be set for a mid-2022 release.
