In an American sitcom driver episode ‘How I Met Your Mom’, one of the characters puts a subtle perspective on the right and ideal relationship.
Properly labeled as the “Olive Theory”, it is believed that partners are best suited if they have very different ideas on a particular topic. For example, if one person hates olives, another person really does love them.
Keeping the Olive Theory in ones mind, it should come as no surprise that Serena Williams’ husband hated tennis before they met.
What Did Serena’s Husband Say?
Speaking to CNN, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian admitted he would never have been in a tennis match if not for his wife’s work.
“I hated tennis for a long time, until I met my wife and tried to grab the ins and outs of it,” Ohanian said.
“I’ve always been a sports fanatic, and as I watched the final, I realized what a privilege I had.”
“Now I thank the world of tennis – I understand how difficult and powerful the world of tennis is.
“In the technical field we work really hard, but we have always been deceived because the work done by a professional tennis player, physically and mentally, has been at a very high level.”
The Couple And Their Family
Williams and Ohanian have been married since 2017, and the American star gave birth to their first child Alexis Olympia in September of that year.
In addition to her first impression of the game, Ohanian and her daughter are often seen on the front line of tennis events, congratulating Williams.
“I was sitting at the front to see everything Serena was doing, to understand her role in the world and to discover how different she is from others,” Ohanian said.
“I know how much she has worked on everything, not only as a woman but also as a black woman.
“At the same time Olympia will never doubt the great work her mother has done, and one day I will explain to her, but I want to make her understand that I am also doing my part.”
Williams is a 23-times Grand slam champion, just one title behind the full-time world record which is held by the Australian Tennis superstar Margaret Court.
