Justin Langer clashed with match referee David Boon before filing a controversial argument over a substitution due to concussion that allowed Yuzvendra Chahal to defeat Australia enabling India to victory in a Twenty20 match.
Injuries During The Game
In Canberra’s Manuka Oval, Australia lost 11 runs to 161-7 in India – with the added leg injury suffered by captain Aaron Finch. Australia’s chase was crippled after a 56-run opener between Finch and D’Arcy Short, while Chahal took 3-25 to be named the best player.
After starting the game on the bench, Chahal was brought into the game as a replacement for Ravindra Jadeja in changing the innings. Jadeja hit the top of the Mitchell Starc basketball driver on his helmet while hitting the Indian innings final, but did not get a test on the pitch.
Under ICC rules, a doctor is not required to enter the stadium immediately but would have to be at the end of the overtime if the innings were not completed. What made matters worse is that Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury in the last over, and it was clear he had a running problem when he missed 44 off 23 balls.
Langer was seen in a heated conversation with Boon during the innings break, as Jadeja was replaced Chahal. There was no confirmation from the Australian camp what the conversation was about, but Langer sat on the rocks facing most of the protesters.
Chahal’s Performance
Chahal then took the first two important wickets for Finch and Steve Smith, before removing it with Matt Wade late to open a low Australian order. The nail of the legs had caught Finch holding a long border to the great catch of the dive, and Smith and Wade both fell into the sweep.
Earlier Finch looked dangerous in Australia, flying 35 balls out of 26 balls and hit one big one in his head to Mohammed Shami. But his leg is always sore everywhere. He needed care during the innings, after he was injured in hitting the ball during the off-off early in the game.
Australia have already rested Pat Cummins in the series, while Alex Carey was not selected on Friday but could return to open when Finch is released. In addition, Wade was vice-captain on Friday night and Smith could have chosen to partner with Josh Hazlewood, Glenn Maxwell or Moises Henriques.
