JobSeeker Payment in 2025: How Much Can You Get and For How Long?

If you’re currently out of work or earning less than you need, the JobSeeker Payment in 2025 could provide the financial support you need to get back on track.

What Is the JobSeeker Payment in 2025?

The JobSeeker Payment in 2025 is Australia’s primary income support for eligible job seekers. Updated twice yearly (March and September), the latest rate changes took effect in March 2025. This payment helps cover living costs while actively seeking employment.

How Much Can You Get?

As of 20 March 2025, the fortnightly JobSeeker Payment in Australia is:

Single, 55+ or partial capacity to work$836.50
Partnered$715.10
Single principal carer (exempt)$1,011.50

Recent boosts include:

  • For singles (22+, no kids): +$3.10 → $789.90 (with energy supplement)
  • Singles with kids: +$3.30, older or partially disabled recipients also received similar boosts
  • Partnered recipients: +$2.80 each

How Long Can You Receive It?

You can get the JobSeeker Payment in 2025 as long as you:

  • Are aged 22 to Age Pension age (around 67)
  • Satisfy income and assets tests
  • Continue meeting mutual obligations (job search, training, Work for the Dole, point-system tasks)

There’s no maximum time limit, you can remain on it indefinitely if you’re still unemployed and abiding by the rules.

Who Is Eligible?

  • To qualify for the JobSeeker Payment in 2025, you must:
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident living in Australia
  • Be aged between 22 and Age Pension age
  • Be unemployed (or under‑employed) and actively seeking more hours
  • Pass income and assets tests (couples can earn up to $150 per fortnight before reduction)
  • Satisfy mutual obligations unless medically or caring‑exempt

Not eligible? Under‑22s may qualify for Youth Allowance instead.

How to Apply?

Receive payments every 2 weeks and report income fortnightly

Check eligibility using the Payment Finder on Services Australia’s site

Gather documents: ID, bank account, Tax File Number, rent/mortgage details, jobseeker snapshot

Log in or sign up on myGov and link Centrelink

Submit the claim online, by phone, or in person

Attend initial interviews or complete a Job Seeker Snapshot
