Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova has broken her social media silence with her first post since the ascension of King Frederik X to the throne, amidst swirling rumors of an alleged affair between the two.
The 47-year-old has notably scaled back her Instagram activity since vehemently denying what she called “malicious” claims surrounding her relationship with the monarch. Casanova’s first post following the scandal, a heartfelt message dedicated to a departed mother figure, marks a poignant return to the platform.
Last year, the socialite found herself at the center of a media storm when reports surfaced suggesting an affair between her and King Frederik X.
Casanova, who had previously been active on social media, opted to reduce her online presence in response to the controversy.
The allegations cast a shadow over her public image, prompting her to issue a statement vehemently denying any romantic involvement with the reigning monarch.
However, on Tuesday, just two days after Frederik’s ascension to the throne, Ms Casanova posted an Instagram Story.
She shared a video originally posted by Spanish singer and actor Miguel Bose, addressing the issue of child slavery in Africa.
Bose’s original post conveyed a stark reality: “40,000 slave children in Congo are forced to work in cobalt mines so we can drive electric cars.”
Last year, Ms Casanova found herself compelled to respond to speculations about an extramarital affair, triggered by her sightings with Frederik, who was then the crown prince, in Madrid – the city she calls home.
Pictures published by the Spanish magazine Lecturas depicted the duo attending a Pablo Picasso exhibit, accompanied by a detailed timeline of their evening. Allegedly, this included a late dinner together before heading to Ms Casanova’s apartment.
However, Ms Casanova vehemently denied the assertions of any romantic involvement.
“I unequivocally reject the assertions implying a romantic relationship between Prince Frederik and myself,” she informed the outlet.
“Any such statements not only entirely lack veracity but also distort the facts in a malicious manner. My legal representatives are already handling this matter, undertaking the necessary steps to safeguard my rights to honour, truth, and privacy.”
On Sunday, two weeks following his mother’s abdication, Frederik was officially crowned. The newly declared king displayed visible emotion as he delivered a speech from the balcony.
